Editing is underway on version 2 of my first novel, now called Cold Press. Originally written in 1993, it was never really intended for publication. It was just an exercise in trying to carry through an idea for a novel-length piece of writing.
However, I recently read it through for the first time since 1993, having largely forgotten the plot. I cringed at some bits, was genuinely intrigued by others, and now the big re-write is underway, to bring it up to date, add an extra 23 years of writing experience, and finally do it justice. It has a new title, Cold Press, lots of new characters, oodles more intrigue, and a new twist that hopefully will keep you guessing uptil the final sentence.
It’s more of a re-write than a simple editing task, but it’s fun to re-visit the characters. It’s still set in 1993. What was realism at the time is now painstakingly researched nostalgia. Mobile phones were in their infancy. There are faxes and callboxes and a Honda Prelude. The London Docklands were still undergoing regeneration, and the coal mines were still open in the north east of England. Although not for long.
Version 2 should be finished for publication in March 2017. It will be available in both print and ebook formats. More news as it it develops.
